Get The Most Out Of Summer

Summer is in full swing and yet it always seems to go by much too fast. The following are my top recommendations to enjoy the summer months so that when it flies by, you'll know you'll have made the most of it!

1. Schedule do-nothing time

With longer days and nice weather we tend to over book summer. As a way to bring balance, I suggest scheduling at least 30 minutes of do-nothing time per week.

Sit outside or by a window and just watch the world. Breathe, rest, make up stories with your kids, share what you see with a friend or family member.

2. Make the journey as fun as the destination

Summer means vacations, road trips and long walks. Sometimes we're so excited about where we're headed the journey seems like a burden.

Stop to smell the flowers as often as possible. Pull off the road and stretch your legs.

The more fun you make the journey, the more refreshed you'll be when you arrive at your destination.

Here are some of the many flowers I've stopped to enjoy:

3. Play like you're a kid

Perhaps this goes without explanation, but summer means it's time to play!!

Whether you have kids or not, jump in the puddles, run through the sprinklers and let yourself be playful.

You may think you are too old, but when you look back on the summer you'll remember each childlike moment as a beacon of joy. Trust me, it's worth the extra laundry.

A few summers back my mom and I took a walk and when we came upon a big field with sprinklers, we went for it:

Extra help to let go

If all of these sound like a huge stretch for you, or if you've been extra busy or stressed this summer for whatever reason, then start with this simple breathing activity:

  1. Close your eyes.

  2. Put your hands on your belly.

  3. Breathe in through your nose and let the air fill your lungs and bring your body gently upright.

  4. Exhale and let your torso gently curl forward, the head and neck relaxing toward the earth, letting it all go.

  5. Continue in and out, gently up and down with your breath for 2 minutes.

I would absolutely love to hear about how you're getting the most out of summer! Let me know what you're up to in the comments below.
