Keep your emotions in check when your child pushes you to the limits
Kids are incredible. We love them unconditionally and simultaneously they can be beyond frustrating and drive us to a point of rage where we don’t recognize ourselves.
Today’s Ask Kelsey is about what to do when your efforts of kind reminders have failed and your blood starts to boil.
Watch the video for all my tips and how-tos:
1. FORGIVE YOURSELF
We don’t want any guilt clogging up your efforts to move forward with greater ease. We also don’t want any guilt keeping you from still setting loving boundaries that your kids need to thrive.
Use the mantra: I am willing to forgive myself. Thank you for showing me the way.
2. CALM YOURSELF IN THE MOMENT WITH HOOK-UPS
I LOVE this tool. It’s from Brain Gym and I have used it personally and with clients with incredible results. It calms your nervous system and changes the dynamic of the relationship. Seriously, use it and see for yourself!
Watch the video for the simple how-to of getting into and using this simple and powerful technique.
3. REMEMBER THAT DEFIANCE IS A SEARCH FOR CONNECTION
Even though your little one is pushing you away, what they are yearning for is empowerment, support and connection.
Dr. Laura Markham of Aha! Parenting created a fantastic blog on this topic called, Handling Defiance: You’re Not the Boss of Me! It offers a simple structure for approaching defiance at all ages. Click here to read it now.
4. GET MORE SUPPORT IF YOU NEED IT
If this is a constant struggle for you, reach out for additional support. Click here to schedule a free chat with me or reach out to the support systems you already have in place.
Remember that you are not alone, to love and forgive yourself and keep showing up.
