Feeling sensitive and overwhelmed? Come back to calm with these healing tools

A few days ago I was feeling overwhelmed and disconnected. I’d been giving too much of myself to too many things and not replenishing.

Sound familiar?

I know a lot of us have this feeling and when we do, the smallest thing can cause great upset. Sounds, smells and people all become unbearable. And you know it’s irrational, but you can’t help it because you’re exhausted and vulnerable - much like the kids we love when they throw tantrums.

As a parent this is multiplied, and of course when your energy is off everything around you goes wrong. You get bumped by people on the street, technology is glitchy, any commute is worse and all the people you love - your spouse, parents and without a doubt your kids - go awol.

Yep.

That's why I created my More Than Mom online course.

On the days you’re praying for your kids - or spouse - to behave is when they push every button you have, plus ten more.

On the day that I wasn’t feeling my best, I was preparing to see 50 kids the following day so there was not a doubt in my mind that I needed to rest and up my self-care so that I could be my best not just for me, but for them. I turned to a few exercises in my More Than Mom course, said prayers, pulled Goddess cards, took a bath and did the activity I included for you below.

The combination brought calm to my mind, body and soul. I felt reconnected and at ease.

Whether it’s 50 kids or your one amazing kid - or two or more or that spouse I mentioned - YOU deserve to rest when you’re able and up your self-care. Because when you nourish yourself, your whole family benefits.

I know a lot of women who feel guilty when they put themselves first, but remember this:

When you honor yourself - you honor your kids, your spouse, your parents, your friends and in essence, the world. (Click to Tweet.)

Seriously, the more you can receive love, the more love you have to give. It’s a two way street. Win, win.

If you’re ever feeling overwhelmed, highly sensitive or triggered, the technique below will help you stay calm and centered. It’s also extraordinarily helpful to put yourself in this pose if someone you love is upset because it keeps your energy stable so they can feel what they’re feeling and move through it with ease.
